MASTER GINI LAU
The legacy of Eagle Claw kung fu continues today.Gini Lau,the youngest daughter of the late Great Grandmaster Lau Fat Mang,has a studio in Vallejo,California.Master Lau teaches the forms that her father taught her in the spirit of the Eagle Claw tradition.
Master Lau began studying Eagle Claw with her father at the age of four.For the next eight years he would train her without mercy.She would start her training in the early evening and train until the early morning.Her father prepared her well to carry on the legacy of his Eagle Claw.When her father died in 1964,Master Lau joined the Peking Opera.The teachers there were very hard and the training was very structured.She would spend long hours every day learning how to perform on stage. It was there that she would meet her life long friend Jackie Chan.From 1967 until 1973 she toured with the opera performing classical Chinese dance,Kung Fu,gymnastics and weapons demonstrations.
In 1973 the Peking Opera made an American tour,visiting many cities.When it came to San Francisco,Master Lau decided that it was time her to start a new life in America.Despite the attempts of her classmates to change her mind,Master Lau remained in San Francisco.She began to learn English and began to teach her Eagle Claw in a local recreation centers in San Francisco,Foster City,and Vallejo California.
From 1978 through 1981 Master Lau worked as a martial arts movie stunt woman and double. She appeared it the movies, Killer Elite,The Falcon Claw,Weapon of Death and,The Last Adventure.She also appeared on the KNBC Los Angeles television show The Secrets of Martial Arts.
In 1991 Master Lau realized her life long dream by opening a studio in Vallejo California.Eagle Claw training at her school is done in a traditional manner.Each class starts out with stretching and practice of the basic kicks and stances that are at the foundation of the system.Advanced students are required to practice these basic stretches,stances and kicks no matter what level of study that they might be on. Students advance according to their ability and at their own pace.
Master Lau has competed in many tournaments and competitions around the world.In 1975 and 76 she was an International Martial Arts champion. In 1996 and the beginning of 1997 she was asked to perform at a number of Masters exhibitions all over the United States.
